Script, Mood board, & Storyboard

SCRIPT - Plant- Based Planet

First board - Over the past decade, our environment & plant have been on a sharp decline. This can be attributed to  many harmful practices humans have - but one of the most harmful is animal agriculture. One easy change us humans can make is to go plant-based.

INSERT TITLE BOARD HERE - Plants pushing the title up

Second board - There are four main areas of the environment that can be improved with a plant-based diet. Water, Deforestation, Green House Gasses, and Food Waste.  “Shifting away from animal-based foods [could not only] add up to 49% to the global food supply without expanding croplands;” but would also significantly reduce carbon emissions and waste byproducts that end up in our oceans and as seafood byproducts.

Third Board - Farming accounts for 70 percent of the water consumed and most of its wasteful use, said representatives of 130 nations at the World Water Forum discussing water management. The livestock sector is the largest contributor to global water pollution due to runoff. Growing crops to feed animals killed for food consumes 56 percent of water in the U.S.

Fourth Board - The livestock sector is also one of the leading drivers of global deforestation, and is linked to 75 percent of historic deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. Nearly a third of biodiversity loss to date has been linked to animal agriculture. (There are a lot of statistics I can pull from here)

Fifth Board - Greenhouse Gases -Accounts for five percent of global anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions; Represents 44 percent of anthropogenic methane emissions, the primary driver of  climate change related to livestock, as methane is 34 times more potent than carbon dioxide over 100 years;Comprises 44 percent of all anthropogenic nitrous oxide emissions, the most potent GHG; andMakes up 75-80 percent of total agricultural emissions.

Sixth Board - Often we throw away parts of a food that is actually edible. Instead of throwing away the green tops of vegetables, seeds, and peels, consider incorporating them into the meal. Use creative recipes that reduce or reuse food scraps like chef Max La Manna’s Seeds to Skin Squash and Sage Pasta or Food Waste Vegetable Stock.

However, having extra food scraps is inevitable. It’s what we do with it that makes a difference. Food waste makes up approximately 22% of municipal solid waste. When food ends up in the landfill, it rots and produces the greenhouse gas called methane. Composting helps keep these food scraps out of landfills and avoids these polluting emissions from being produced.

Explainer Video Creative Brief & Outline

Saving the environment is a very important topic for me. There are easy ways to take steps to help save the earth that I think people are unaware or skeptical of.  Eating plant-based foods and eliminating red meat are easy steps to take that hold so many benefits for your body and the planet. For this explainer video, I will be titling the project “How Eating Plant-Based Will Save Our Planet.” Similarly to the benefits of coffee video, I will be taking a simple, but aesthetically pleasing approach to the content. I want things to connect easily to viewers, so I will be doing an animation & have a script to go along with it. Also, I will be breaking down the reasons in the videos to four categories: Water, Deforestation, Green House Gasses, and Food Waste. I think summarizing a very complicated issue into to four categories will help others realize the large impact meat agriculture has on our environment. I also am going to be using cute graphics of animals and plants to push the point across even further. Overall, I want the video topic to be as well received as possible, so making some sweeping points may also be necessary.

OUTLINE

Eating a plant based diet is not only good for your health, but also the environment

  1. “Shifting away from animal-based foods [could not only] add up to 49% to the global food supply without expanding croplands;” but would also significantly reduce carbon emissions and waste byproducts that end up in our oceans and as seafood byproducts (Jalava et al, 2014).”

  1. Here is why eating plant based will most likely be our future

    1.  pound of beef requires anywhere between 2000 and 8,000 gallons of water to produce, according to studies conducted by UC Davis.   Much of this water is used in creating the feed for the cows, whether it is grass or grain (Beckett & Oltjen, 1993).

    2. Conversely, 1 pound of Tofu requires 302 gallons of water to produce, and it requires 290 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of unprocessed oats.

  2. If we all eliminated meat and milk from our diets and went to plant sources of these foods, we would be saving at least 50% of our water use.

  3. We're also wasting too much food. The panel estimates that greenhouse emissions associated with food loss and waste - from field to kitchen bin - is as high as 8-10% of ALL global emissions.

  4. Eliminates a large source of greenhouse gas emissions

    1. But food production also contributes to global warming. Agriculture - together with forestry - accounts for about a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions. Livestock rearing contributes to global warming through the methane gas the animals produce, but also via deforestation to expand pastures, for example.

These are major pieces of information that I would like to get out there.

Audio Moodboard

For my audio visualizer project, I am focusing on one of my favorite songs “Stars Tonight” by Zed’s Dead. I wanted to do a funkier/ EDM song because I have always been fascinated by the visuals presented at EDM shows. This song in particular does not have many words, but has a lot of range in the audio. It is high-speed and almost mystical sounding, so I want to pair the visuals with small words flying by. I am going to utilize gradients to try and shift the color the whole time. I also am going to use the sound wave effect somewhere in the video. Since the original music video has kind of a static graphic in the middle of the screen with a quick-paced background, I want my creation to have the same 3D effect and have it look like we are flying through a galaxy with a lot of fast moving stars. To make up for the lack of words, I am going to have to keep the video quick-paced and energetic. I think I am going to do this by creating different abstract patterns in the tune of the video.

Project Two - Brief, Mood & Story Boards

Project Mood board

Project Mood board

Motion Moodboard-02.jpg

Infographics are already so compelling when they are static, so I am excited to animate one on my own. For this next Motion project, I am going to focus on one of my favorite things - coffee! I want to make this animated infographic aesthetically pleasing and reflective of my style, but also want the information on the infographic to be the main focus. For this project, I will be focusing on the benefits of drinking coffee, but I want the text to reflect a comedic, yet informative tone. I want the music to be upbeat & bubbly like the graphics, so I will most likely do some kind of pop. For the motion itself, I want it to be very three dimensional. Since coffee is grown from trees, I want there to be a scene where a bean with text on it falls from the tree & rolls to another spot of information. Movements along with the visuals will make the infographic visually compelling and fun to watch.Along with the fun touches I am thinking of, I want to incorporate more typical elements of an infographic. For example, I think a pie/circle chart with rotation would be important to show statistics and sources of information. A bar chart stylized as trees growing upwards could convey the striking benefits of drinking coffee. There is a lot to consider, but I know that visual representation of the data I pull can be spun in a fun, interactive way. The text that I have chosen for this infographic (Bambi & Arial Rounded) looks like a coffee shop sign and will be used throughout the piece. However, there may be locations in the video where I may have to use a bold text to convey something important.
